What's working

  • But the business got BETTER and July's central bear datapoint was FALSIFIED: the Tinuiti panel's “Facebook impressions −5%” is contradicted by the 10-Q — family impressions +14% AND price per ad +12% simultaneously, which is a better matching engine, not ad-load stuffing. Meta passed Google to become the largest ad business on earth (26.8% vs 26.4%, +24.1% vs +11.9%). Instagram DAU 2B, time spent +double digits. Every named rival is shrinking — X ad revenue −59% since 2022, Bluesky −27% MAU, Snap NA DAU −7%; the whole Snap+Pinterest+Reddit+X+Walmart cohort is 2.4% of global ad spend. AI-assistant attention thesis unsupported: 16 min/day genAI vs >90 social; ChatGPT ads are 0.04% of Meta's quarterly ad revenue
  • Ex $2.40B legal + $1.18B severance, op margin was 36.8% (not 30.9%) and EPS +3% (not −13%) — the P&L is fine; the cash flow statement is the story.
  • Gross margin 81.4% unchanged; net debt/EBITDA 0.62x; net margin < op margin — NO private-AI-stake mark inflation (unlike GOOGL/AMZN, only the cash-destruction half of the AI-build pattern fires here)
  • Short interest −8.8% to 1.43% of float — shorts covering
  • Zuckerberg has filed NO open-market sale since 2025-11-01 — gifts and conversions only. 📉 Depreciation wall, modelled properly: D&A $23B → ~$71B by 2029, but revenue compounds, so op margin lands ~27-28% and op income DOLLARS STILL GROW. This is a RE-RATING, not an impairment — a 41%-margin toll collector becoming a 28%-margin infrastructure operator

Watch

  • RE-ANALYZED 8/18 — DOWNGRADED [6.5] → [6.0]. HOLD, DO NOT ADD. The 7/29 file was written hours before the Q2 print and is superseded
  • Read the tape correctly — the decline has TWO causes and most commentary conflates them. The print gapped it −8.0% on 7/30, then it fully round-tripped by 8/03 ($590.24) and peaked ABOVE the pre-print level at $599.12 on 8/11. What is being priced now (−9.3% in five sessions) is LITIGATION, not capex.
  • MDL 3047 — 4 states + a federal COPPA disgorgement claim by all 29 AGs — had OPENING STATEMENTS 8/18 before Judge Gonzalez Rogers; verdict Oct–Nov, jury advisory only. 8/06: New Mexico declared Meta's platforms a public nuisance — a first for social media — ordering $567M PLUS product mandates (no overnight notifications, under-18 time limits); ~$942M total NM, and NM trial #2 on 9/08 seeks up to $62.85B. The injunctive risk is the thesis risk — a fine hits one quarter, a court-ordered change to how Meta ranks content for minors hits engagement permanently
  • THE NUMBER: revenue +93.5% since 2021, FCF +5.1%. Q2 FCF $784M (−91% YoY) on $60.8B revenue; capex 39.1% of revenue TTM heading to ~55%; FY2026 FCF guides out to roughly ZERO (−$8B to +$16B) on the company's own $130–145B range
  • Buybacks $0 for THREE straight quarters and the share count is RISING +1.29% YoY (was −1.6%/yr)
  • ROIC 30.9% → 18.4% in four quarters; net debt $16.8B → $68.2B; +$51.7B net new debt in 12 months
  • 2027 capex EXPLICITLY REFUSED — Li: “we aren't providing a specific outlook… near term capacity is more valuable than long term capacity.” Street filled it at $176B (HSBC) to $215B (DB) — an unusable spread
  • FOUR vendor traps: the “17.2x fwd” was wrong — Yahoo's fwd EPS $34.90 matches NO consensus year (FY26 $26.70, FY27 $30.50); real forward is 20.4x FY26 / 17.8x FY27. “Buybacks” differ 6.4x by vendor (Yahoo $3.3B vs stockanalysis $21.4B TTM) — the gap is RSU tax withholding, not retirement. Yahoo's “insider purchases +41.1%” has ZERO code-P rows. Yahoo capex excludes finance-lease principal — true Q2 FCF is $784M, not $1.746B
  • Do NOT anchor on the $754 mean target — it embeds the phantom EPS. The stock sits 6% BELOW the lowest sell-side target ($580) with zero sells across 57 analysts, which signals stale models, not a floor. FV $450-650, central ~$516 — at $570.74 (8/27, +4.6% on the week) it is ~11% ABOVE central fair value — and now ~15% ABOVE the top of the reset $455-495 entry band, and the reverse DCF still demands a 2.1x increase in FCF, barely easier than at $597. 🔒 Hold both positions; do not add. Add $455-495, strong buy <$440. ⭐ The one falsifiable test: a 2027 capex number, or a NAMED Meta Compute customer with a dollar figure. Mizuho cut specifically for that absence — it is fixable, and Connect on 9/23 is the venue
  • (the site renders this ~14% high — it computes off Yahoo's broken fwd EPS $34.90; on true FY27 $30.50 the level is ~$670)

Would upgrade on

  • Upgrade to [7.0]: disclosed 2027 capex with an ROI framework buybacks resume named Meta Compute customer FoA op margin ≥45% two quarters MDL resolves without injunctive relief. Trim 22x fwd
