AMD's server processors (EPYC) and AI accelerator chips (Instinct) that run cloud computing and AI workloads for hyperscale data centres. This is AMD's largest and fastest-growing segment, competing directly against NVIDIA in AI chips and against Intel in server processors. Growth here tracks the industry-wide buildout of AI infrastructure.AMD的服务器处理器(EPYC)和AI加速芯片(Instinct),为超大规模数据中心运行云计算和AI工作负载。
Ryzen processors that go inside laptops and desktop computers sold to consumers and businesses. Demand rises and falls with PC replacement cycles, so this segment is more cyclical than Data Center, but a return to office-refresh and AI-PC upgrade cycles has driven strong recent growth.
Radeon graphics cards for gaming PCs, plus the custom semi-custom chips AMD designs into the PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Console chip sales follow the multi-year hardware cycle of each console generation, so this segment can swing sharply between console launch years and the quieter years in between.
Adaptive and FPGA chips, gained through the 2022 Xilinx acquisition, that are built into industrial equipment, automotive systems, and networking gear rather than consumer devices. These chips run on longer product cycles than PCs or phones, giving revenue more stability, but that same slow replacement cycle also means growth lags AMD's other segments.

📋 ANALYZED 8/27 — first file ever. WATCH. Spot sits AT/ABOVE the top of fair value. Advanced Micro Devices — x86 CPUs (EPYC/Ryzen), Instinct AI accelerators, and the Xilinx FPGA franchise. 🔍 Not 32.2x — that was a full fiscal year out. The real ladder: 63x FY2026 non-GAAP ~43x NTM 30.9x only on FY2027 (Yahoo's epsCurrentYear $7.57 vs epsForward $15.45) → [[pitfall-vendor-forward-eps-is-the-wrong-fiscal-year]]. 🚨 THE LARGEST FACT ON THIS NAME IS IN NO PUBLISHED MULTIPLE: 320M warrants at a $0.01 strike issued to OpenAI and Meta — 16.2% of the post-issue company, ~$152B at spot — plus $4.1B of guarantees on customer datacenter leases. The 10-Q states no tranche has vested and the warrants "had no impact on the Condensed Consolidated Financial Statements." Vesting is tied to Instinct purchase milestones and a reported ~$600 share-price target, so the bull case is what triggers the dilution → [[pattern-customer-warrants-are-contra-revenue-that-buys-the-backlog]]. Fully diluted, FY2026 is 75x and FY2027 36.8x.
What's working
- The CPU franchise is genuinely winning, and it passed the falsification test: Mercury Q2-26 x86 34.1% overall / 34.5% server / 28.9% mobile (+8.4pt) — Intel added mobile capacity and still lost share, so this is product, not shortage → updates [[pattern-shortage-pricing-masks-share-loss]]
- Embedded 39.5% op margin — best moat, but only 8.5% of revenue.
- Q3 guide ~$13.0B actually BEAT the $12.5B consensus — the −7.0% on 8/05 was the flat 56% gross-margin guide, not a revenue miss (correcting this file's own prior note)
- 2027 Data Center guided to more than double; Su called a $30B Instinct estimate too low
Red flags
- ROIC 4.5% FY2025, ~8% TTM on an asset base 49% goodwill + acquisition intangibles ($41.1B, amortising $544M/qtr)
- Q2-26 net margin 19.9% EXCEEDED operating margin 17.3% — $598M of non-operating income = 24% of the $1.38 GAAP EPS; operating-only EPS ~$1.05 → [[pattern-net-margin-above-operating-margin-is-a-tripwire]] [[pitfall-unrealized-equity-marks-break-headline-pe]]. The GAAP gross-margin jump 40%→54% is the absence of last year's $800M MI308 charge, not leverage — comparable non-GAAP was +200bps
- SBC $1.90B vs buybacks $1.18B; diluted shares still +1.8% YoY before any warrant
- ~11% of CoWoS vs Nvidia's ~60% — the ceiling is allocation, not orders; 56% gross margin vs Nvidia's ~73%. Nvidia Data Center $89.0B vs AMD's $6.7B including EPYC
- Meta and OpenAI are simultaneously AMD's warrant-holding anchors and two of Broadcom's six XPU customers.
- P/S 18.8x — 70% above AMD's own prior peak; −18.5% off high but +219% off low → [[pattern-ai-levered-fields-trade-above-own-band]]
Watch
- Every firm raised targets post-print and almost nobody upgraded — MS Equal-Weight $465, below spot; JPM and RBC stayed neutral
- Zero insider buys in 12 months; five officers sold ~$41.8M in the 14 sessions after the print. Reverse-DCF: 28.1%/yr FCF for a decade → $99.6B in year 10, more than Nvidia earns today. FV $380-480 (central $430). Entry $330-380, strong buy <$300. Trim $545 (≈42x FY2027 non-GAAP fully diluted — dollar form deliberately: the site would back out EPS $15.45 from
forwardPE30.85, which is both the wrong year AND excludes all 320M warrant shares, soTrim 40x fwdwould render $618) → [[pitfall-multiple-trim-inherits-the-broken-vendor-field]] - Same bucket as ANET/AVGO/KLAC — and ANET is the better half of the same bet. ⏳ Q3 print 2026-11-03 — the first quarter a Meta tranche could vest.
** A2026-08-27**

Why customers stay
A strong processor-design franchise on TSMC's leading-edge factories drove EPYC into large, sticky data-centre share. The weakness is honest: AMD owns no factories, so it depends on TSMC for supply, and in AI chips it is the challenger to NVIDIA, whose software is a deeper moat.
